In April this year the Fijian village of Semo was devastated by flash flooding. Semo is the home village of Merewai Gordon, mother of St Josheph's Nudgee students Joseph and Connor Gordon, and a place that the Gordon family visit each time they visit Fiji. Semo village was one of the hardest hit in the floods with only the church and two houses remaining intact. The other 56 houses in the village were significantly damaged, leaving them uninhabitable and washing most of the possessions away. The villagers are now living in a nearby village before they can return to their normal lives.
We would like to ask each Nudgee student to help the people of Semo by please donating one of the following items which are in the greatest need by the end of this term: manchester, shoes, school bags and bedding. The College does not want cash donations. Anyone wishing to support the people of Semo financially is welcome to contact Brad Gordon directly at [email protected]
This term we are promoting the EREA Charter Touchstone of Inclusive Community. The Semo Village Flood Appeal is another way we can all contribute to supporting those in most need in our extended community, as well as a couple of young men in our immediate community. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Donations of goods can be taken directly to the O’Neill Building or to the Edmund Rice Centre.
For more information, the following eight minute Fiji TV story is focussed on the flooding in Semo.
